چکیده

We carried out large-scale molecular-dynamics simulations of the classical Rayleigh–Taylor ~RT! phenomenon in a Lennard-Jones molecular liquid. We have observed from these simulations, involving 10 – 10 particles, the development of hydrodynamic instabilities from two different kinds of interacting particles. A free surface is introduced by deploying an overlying void. For a box with a dimension up to about 1 mm and two layers having different particle sizes, the fingering type of instability is observed as a result of oscillations caused by the gravitational field. In this gridless scheme, surface waves can be captured self-consistently. For equally sized particles, a spontaneous ‘‘fluctuation driven’’ mixing with a long start-up time is observed. These moleculardynamics results suggest the possibilities of upscaling the RT phenomenon. For conducting these numerical experiments, which require at least ;10 time steps, a single simulation would require 100–200 Tflops of massively parallel computer power. © 1998 American Institute of Physics. @S0894-1866~98!01606-X#

Influences of Small-Scale Effect and Boundary Conditions on the Free Vibration of Nano-Plates: A Molecular Dynamics Simulation

This paper addresses the influence of boundary conditions and small-scale effect on the free vibration of nano-plates using molecular dynamics (MD) and nonlocal elasticity theory. Based on the MD simulations, Large-scale Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator (LAMMPS) is used to obtain fundamental frequencies of single layered graphene sheets (SLGSs) which modeled in this paper as the mo...

ReaDDy - A Software for Particle-Based Reaction-Diffusion Dynamics in Crowded Cellular Environments

We introduce the software package ReaDDy for simulation of detailed spatiotemporal mechanisms of dynamical processes in the cell, based on reaction-diffusion dynamics with particle resolution. In contrast to other particle-based reaction kinetics programs, ReaDDy supports particle interaction potentials. This permits effects such as space exclusion, molecular crowding and aggregation to be mode...

Investigation of Dynamical Behavior (Transverse Vibration) and Instability Analysis of Carbon Nanotubes Conveying Nanofluid

This work focuses on the dynamical behavior of carbon nanotubes, including vibration, wave propagation and fluid-structure interaction. In the present research, transverse vibration of nano fluid conveying carbon nanotubes is investigated. To this end, based on the nonlocal and strain-inertia gradient continuum elasticity theories and by using rod and Euler-Bernoulli beam models, the system’s d...

Investigation of isomorph-invariance in liquid methane by molecular dynamics simulation

In this paper, isomorph invariance of liquid methane is investigated by means of constant-NVT molecular dynamics simulations. According to the data extracted from simulations, equilibrium fluctuations show strong correlation between potential energy U and virial W. We also generated isomorph state points and investigated invariance of certain thermodynamic, structural, and dynamical properties....

Bridging Scales by Using Discrete-particles in Modeling Complex Fluids

Macroscopic phenomena can couple together with microscopic events creating complex feedback dynamics. When the changes in the microscale involved by macroscopic behavior : 1. can be modeled by downscaling of the macroscopic models, 2. follow assumed constitutive relations, 3. do not violate the assumptions of mass, momenta and energy continuity, then the continuum model can be regarded as a cro...
